Apps Dominate Mobile Usage, Apple’s Safari Tops Web Browsers

If you’re using a mobile device, the odds are you’re spending your time on apps. Of those who do surf the Web with a mobile device, most are using Apple’s Safari, according to a new Flurry survey. The average time spent on a mobile device increased to two hours and 42 minutes per day between January and March of this year. This compared to two hours and 38 minutes per day one year ago. Of this, apps were used 86 percent of the time, compared to 14 percent for mobile Web. Gaming commanded 32 percent of app usage, while Facebook grabbed an impressive 17 percent. Other notables include social messaging (9.5 percent), YouTube (4 percent), and utilities (8 percent). Of those who spent 14 percent of their time using a Web browser, 50 percent chose Apple’s Safari, followed by 35 percent who selected Google’s Chrome app. The Flurry survey looked at mobile usage in the United States on the iOS and Android platforms.
