The Apple iPhone 5s Remains No. 1 In The US For Now

April 3, 2014
Strong brand loyalty is the reason the Apple iPhone 5s remains the top selling smartphone in the United States, nearly six months after it first arrived. The same cannot be said for the iPhone 5c, according to a new Canaccord Genuity survey. As first noted by AppleInsider, the iPhone 5s remained No. 1 at AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, in the month of March. This is the same position Apple’s flagship device has held since it was launched last September. The Samsung Galaxy S4 remains in the No. 2 position at AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. The HTC One M8 is the second best-selling smartphone at Verizon. The iPhone 5s’ reign at No. 1 could end this month, thanks to the launch on April 11 of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Regardless, analyst T. Michael Walkley believes Apple will once again secure the smartphone crown once the “iPhone 6” is launched later this year. He notes:
We believe Apple will win back meaningful high-end market share during H2/C2014 based on our belief new iPhones with larger screen sizes could create a strong upgrade cycle among Apple's loyal base.
The iPhone 5c hasn’t ranked in the top three at any of the major U.S. carriers since last November, when Apple’s mid-cost device ranked No. 3 at each of the four carriers.
