Apple Brings More Human Curation To App Stores In Europe

June 12, 2014
Apple is expanding its app discovery tools in App Stores across Europe. Visitors to the productivity, photo & video, sport, music, lifestyle, health, and travel categories will now see recommendations and themed collections of apps from Apple's editorial teams, according to The Guardian. The company is also launching a new landing page on the App Store, which points visitors to the curated categories. The changes are viewable on iOS devices, PCs, and Macs. In total, there are now 12 categories that have curated content. The other five are games, kids, education, food, and Newsstand. Pages for other categories continue to display lists of new and popular apps chosen by an algorithm. Until now, only App Stores in Canada and the United States had offered categories with curation. At last week’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that new App Store features will arrive this fall with iOS 8. This includes better search features, video previews, and the ability for developers to sell multiple apps in discounted bundles.
