Good And Bad News About Apple's 'iPhone 6,' 'iWatch'

When will Apple’s “iWatch” finally launch? Will all “iPhone 6” models feature a sapphire crystal display? These questions and more are answered in a new report from Economic Daily, as first translated by 9to5Mac. You’ve been warned: Not all of the news is good. The report says the long-rumored 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will feature a display made of the same Corning Gorilla glass found on Apple’s current devices. The sapphire crystal we’ve been hearing so much about? That material is only going to be available on the larger 5.5-inch iPhone model. Economic Daily says there should be plenty of 4.7-inch iPhone 6 units available at launch. However, low sapphire crystal yield rates will keep the 5.5-inch model in short supply through the end of 2014. The iWatch, meanwhile, is expected to arrive before the end of September. Unfortunately, the reports says that test units of the wearable device are having power issues with the device's OLED display. The paper expects Apple to price the iWatch at $349. It will include component parts from Largan, Foxconn, Pegatron, Quanta, Inventec, and F-TPK. Here are the highlights of the story, as published by 9to5Mac: New iPhones:

• The smaller, 4.7-inch model will continue to use Corning Gorilla glass for the display
• The 4.7-inch version will use displays sourced from LG Display and Japan Display and is not having yield problems
• The paper is expecting 60 million units of the 4.7 inch model to be initially produced
• The larger 5.5-inch model will sport the sapphire crystal screen and is having production issues due to low sapphire crystal yield rates and will be short in supply through the end of 2014

The iWatch:

• The iWatch will be introduced at the end of Q3 2014
• The Apple wearable device will include components and production from Largan, Foxconn, Pegatron, Quanta, Inventec and F-TPK
• The iWatch is expected to include an OLED display, but current prototypes are having power draw issues that are being worked through
• The paper is expecting a price point of $349 with initial shipment numbers around 10 million units

Many will likely be upset were Apple to release a new iPhone without a sapphire crystal display. They might also balk at the iWatch costing $349. The validity of this report can't be confirmed. We will keep you updated.
