Today’s apps gone free: Harmony, Date and Time Calculator, SpotOn and more
iPhone:
Ringo is the cheapest calling card type app we have seen. The call quality is fantastic and it doesn’t require the Internet at all. It’s really a phone app, not VOIP. Also, you can call any old regular phone number in the world. You don’t have to get the other person to sign up for the service.
Ringo: Low cost international calls is available for free today only (09/06). It has a 4-star rating with a total of 52 ratings.
Universal:
We like Word Mess because it’s accessible to gamers of all ages. At the beginning of each round you’re presented with a word or type of word that must be discovered among the mess. You have a limited amount of time to track it down and tap on it. You’re able to play all on your own or compete with your friends in head-to-head battles. You’re also able to compare your skills via Game Center.
Word Mess is available for free today only (09/06). It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 540 ratings.
We think this game is great because it trains your brain and helps you focus. Who couldn’t use a little help with that? The object, letter, or number you must find is presented at the top of the screen along with a timer bar. You must focus on the random collection of objects, letters, or numbers until the correct one pops up and tap on it before it disappears. Make a mistake and all progress will be lost. You’re also able to compete against friends or random strangers online via Game Center.
SpotOn: Find The Hidden Object is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4-star rating with a total of 39 ratings.
We really like this app because of its simplicity. You’re presented with a list of nine different calculators, allowing you to find time differences, calculate work days, add and subtract time, multiple and divide time, convert time, find a date range, convert time zones, calculate age, and calculate time travel. The results from each can be shared via AirDrop, Messages, Twitter, Facebook, and email.
Date & Time Calculator (9 in 1) is available for free today only (09/06). It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 53 ratings.
Harmony comes as close to puzzling perfection as you can get. The object of the game is to swap out blocks with a tap in order to get them to match the color palette. Blocks can only be swapped in vertical or horizontal rows. The number of moves each block can make is indicated by the black dots on top of them. You absolutely must use up all of the moves for each block to complete the puzzles. Matching only the colors isn’t good enough. Harmony includes more than 1,000 levels, so be prepared for hours upon hours of gameplay.
har•mo•ny is available for free today only (09/06). It has a 4-star rating with a total of 32 ratings.
We love Flash Reader because of its versatility. No matter what it is you need to read, Flash Reader is able to present all of the text word by word. This process allows your brain to really absorb and understand what you’re reading even as the text goes flying by. Content can be pulled from the web using the built-in browser, opened from another app, or copy and pasted. The speed and amount of words per flash can be adjusted as well as the text size and font.
Flash Reader is available for free today only (09/06). It has a 4-star rating with a total of 229 ratings.
iPad:
