One of my favorite accessory companies continues to be U.K.-based Tech21, which is now out with its line of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cases.
Once again, these products feature Tech21’s signature Impact Band. This orange strip inside helps absorb impact at the molecular level, using a non-Newtonian polymer (like cornstarch and water) that has the protection of OtterBox, but with less bulk.
Like previous Tech21 cases, the Classic Check case for the iPhone 6 Plus includes D3O, a patented protective material that is said to absorb and disperse energy. A Classic Check case for the iPhone 6 is also available.
Back in 2012, I tested the durability of Tech21’s Impact Snap case on my then-new iPhone 5 by dropping both case and phone a number of times. Since that test proved successful, I did it again.
This time around, I dropped my iPhone from the height of 3 feet onto three difference surfaces: carpet, hard wood, and concrete. I can confirm that the Classic Check case worked as advertised. My handset survived, as did the case with no visible scratches.
One of the many advantages of Tech21 cases is their durability and protection that has been compared favorably to the OtterBox cases. However, because they are less bulky, I prefer Tech21 much more, and continue to do so.
Tech21 cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus come in a number of different styles. These include Impact Check, Impact Frame, Impact Shell, Impact Tactical, and Trio Band (iPhone 6 only).
- The Impact Check has a creative check print on the interior
- The Impact Frame utilizes the structure of the Impact Band with a permanent frosted hard PC backplate
- The Impact Shell features a smooth, glossy finish, without any pattern design
- The Impact Trio features a triple-layered protective system together with a smooth, glossy finish
