Pebble Technology has announced its latest smart watch, the Pebble Time. However, the new device isn’t going to be available at retail stores, at least for while. Instead, the Pebble Time is launching on Kickstarter first.

Featuring color e-paper with up to seven days of battery life, the Pebble Time features a new timeline interface that highlights what’s important in your day. When it is released to backers in May, the watch will be available in a choice of three styles:

  • Black watch case and silicone band with black PVD stainless steel bezel
  • White watch case and silicone band with silver PVD stainless steel bezel
  • Red watch case and silicone band with black PVD stainless steel bezel

Twenty percent thinner than the original Pebble watch, the Pebble Time is fully compatible with all 6,500+ existing Pebble apps and watch faces.

We’re going to have a lot more to say about the Pebble Time in the coming weeks. In particular, we’re going to compare it to the Apple Watch, which is likely to launch before the Pebble Time does.

In the meantime, Pebble is accepting Kickstarter pledges through March 27. The project was fully funded within 17 minutes, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The original Pebble remains one of the most popular Kickstarter projects of all time. In 2012, nearly 69,000 backers helped raise $10.2 million to bring the watch to market.
