Even though we live in a digital world, most in the business world continue to carry business cards. Getting the information on those cards onto our smartphones was once a tedious process. Not anymore, thanks to products like the WorldCard Mobile Phone Kit from PenPower. The $59.95 accessory serves both as a smartphone stand and a business card holder/reader. The end result is very nice and a must-have for any business person.

First, a little background.

PenPower launched in 1991 when it introduced a Chinese writing pad with handwriting recognition technology. The company has grown considerably since then, and now offers a range of products including ones for voice, graphic design, and business document management.

In 2009, PenPower introduced its WorldCard Mobile app for iPhone. The app allows users to capture business card images with a smartphone camera. To date, the app recognizes 20 languages, and offers a support interface in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch.

After scanning a business card, the WorldCard Mobile app can sort the recognized information by name, position, company, phone number, fax number, address, or other fields. Further, you are able to sync contacts to cloud services such as Google, iCloud, and Dropbox.

Unfortunately, scanning a document with your iPhone can be a difficult process since it requires two hands. Even more so on the larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This is where the new WorldCard Mobile Phone Kit comes in.

The accessory, like other smartphone stands, is made to sit near your computer, and serves as both a dock for your smartphone and a business card reader at the same time. Best of all, the WorldCard Mobile Phone Kit doesn’t require any additional hardware or, better still, cords.

Some might complain that the kit doesn’t offer a connector to charge your smartphone. On a positive note, this limitation means that it can be used with smartphones on other platforms, which is important given its compatibility. The WorldCard Mobile Phone Kit comes with a single user license for both the Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS applications.

Take a look:

I’ve been using a WorldCard Mobile Phone Kit since the beginning of the year. I find it both durable and a great addition to my very messy desk. The WorldCard Mobile app is also impressive, at least in terms of what it can accomplish. Its interface, however, is in need of a style update.

Nonetheless, the WorldCard Mobile Phone Kit comes highly recommended. It is available for purchase through the PenPower website.
