A new startup lets you rent the Apple Watch before you buy it
If you are still on the fence about whether you want to buy the Apple Watch, there is already a way you can rent it before you buy it. Photography and gadget rental startup Lumoid will be offering customers the chance to rent the smartwatch before making that final purchase decision, according to a report by Mashable.
For $45 per week, you can get an Apple Watch on your wrist. If you decide you want to buy the Watch, $25 of your rental cost will go towards the purchase price of the wearable. If the steel Apple Watch Sport is more your style, the startup will allow you to rent that model for $55, with $30 going towards your purchase price. If you’re looking for the gold Apple Watch Edition, you won’t find it at Lumoid.
A Lumoid spokesperson told Mashable, “It’s easy to see how a phone or computer or tablet fits into your life, but a watch that reminds you to stand or helps you pay for your groceries can be a harder sell, especially when you only get to test it in the store.”
Lumoid was launched earlier this year, and allows consumers to choose up to five devices to try at home for up to seven days to decide which wearable best fits their lifestyle and interests. The company has, so far, been quite successful, with interest “beyond our wildest expectations.”
The offer from Lumoid begs the question, “Do I want to rent a watch?” The thought of being able to rent the Watch for a week or two does sound appealing. You can find out if the Apple Watch actually fits into your lifestyle before plopping down too much of your hard-earned money.
There do not seem to be many drawbacks to using the service, other than the fact that you could wind up paying more than the cost of the Watch if you rent it for several weeks before buying it. If you want to try out Apple’s smartwatch before buying it, this is a good way to do so.
Quantities of the Apple Watch will be limited at Lumoid, but you can sign up here to get on the waitlist.
