Apple Watch receives award before it even launches
If all Apple cared about was winning awards, they could stop production of the Apple Watch right now and call it a day. The upcoming smartwatch has not been released yet, but it has already been recognized with the International Forum Design Gold award. The iF jury praised the new product, saying:
The idea of combining classic materials such as leather and metal with state-of-the-art technology to create a very individual fashion accessory has resulted in a delightful product offering a holistic user experience.
Only 47 Gold awards were given at the iF ceremony in Munich, Germany, and only two of those products were from the telecommunication industry. The other Gold award winner was a Chinese-made smartphone known as the Smartisan T1.
The International Forum Design jury looks at design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental friendliness, functionality, ergonomics, visualization for use, safety, brand value and branding, and universal design for each nominated product. According to the jury, “The Apple Watch scores highly for each design detail.”
The Apple Watch is expected to be released in April, but we should know more about the official launch date after the March 9 “Spring Forward” event. Keep watching for more details and our live coverage of the event.
