Fan TV gets a major overhaul in update

The Fan TV app has recently received a major update, one that makes the software a must-have for cord cutters. Previously, Fan TV was a scaled down version of the iPad app, and was optimized for video feedback. In the new version, however, Fan TV is geared towards what people usually use the iPhone for: doing searches and trying to better manage their entertainment sources.

Fan TV told TechCrunch that they realized “the experience their users desired for the iPhone was not playback, but rather content discovery.” The app has been redesigned from the ground up to do just that, allowing you to quickly find shows or movies and save them to a Universal Watchlist that is tracked across different services, streaming and otherwise. You can add any movie or show you want to see, and Fan TV will keep track of when you are where you can watch it. The app will send you notifications as soon as something on your Watchlist becomes available.

When you are ready to watch a particular movie or television show, you can launch the Fan TV app and it will tell you where you can stream or buy it on third-party services. You can still watch the videos right there on your phone, if you choose, but you don’t have to.

Fan TV currently tracks 44 different services, including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and iTunes. In addition to the usual suspects, though, Fan TV even includes many networks’ own streaming services. As new services come out, the company continues to expand the list of streaming and download sites. All told, Fan TV’s database constitutes 2.6 million entertainment assets including movies, television series, and talent.

Fan TV is available for free on the App Store, and does not contain any advertisements or in-app purchases.
