Get Up - Work Break Timer encourages you to be more active

Sitting too much is dangerous to your health, and has even been called “the new smoking.” Not enough activity throughout the day can raise the risk of many diseases and can even cause blood clots in your veins. Experts say that you should get up and take even a short, active, break every 20 to 30 minutes. The trick is remembering to take those breaks and to make the most of them. A new app on the App Store, Get Up – Work Break Timer, helps you do just that.

The app guides you to establishing a daily work break goal of a certain number of activity periods per day. You can then set a reminder to notify you when it is time to get up and move around. Even if the app ended there, it would be useful, but Get Up – Work Break Timer does much more than that.

Once you are taking your break, the app helps you make the most of the time and build up to a high activity level. It suggests certain exercises and demonstrates those activities so you know what you should be doing to ramp up your movement level. Beautifully designed, Get Up challenges you to stretch, move vigorously, and engage every part of your body, from head to toe, in the activity.

You can set the amount you want to challenge your balance, keep your feet moving, and have your hands in motion. The app also allows you to set the speed from “almost slow motion” to “almost impossibly fast.” You can also customize the length of your workout breaks, programming the duration from one to five minutes in 30-second increments.

To challenge you even further, the app includes achievements that you can earn, so you are rewarded for that awesome exercise break with a virtual trophy. Get Up – Work Break Timer is available for $0.99 on the App Store, with no ads or in-app purchases.
