Imgur releases iPhone app to browse their image collection
Viral image website Imgur recently released its second attempt at an iOS app. You may recall Imgur producing, and then removing, its first shot at an iOS app several years ago. The new app is an iPhone-only app that allows you to browse and share the site’s image collection.
The old app tried to replicate the grid format of the Imgur website, a format the Android app still displays. Instead of a grid in the iPhone app, though, you see a single image. You can swipe from right to left to see more, and you scroll down underneath the picture to see comments.
If you want to go beyond just browsing the images, you can double-tap an image to see a number of action icons at the bottom of the screen. You can share images with other apps, up-vote or down-vote photos, and mark pictures as favorites. You can also download favorites to your iPhone.
What you can’t do from the app, yet, is upload images. Imgur founder and CEO Alan Schaaf told The Verge, though, that the feature to upload images would be coming soon.
Imgur is available for the iPhone on the App Store. If you install the app on your iPad, though, you’ll have to settle for bumped up magnification of the images.
