Dropbox announces new commenting feature for the Web app

Getting Stuff Done
April 28, 2015

As of today, April 28, Dropbox users can enjoy the benefit of a new commenting feature for the Web app. The update is expected to be coming to the mobile app soon.

This handy feature provides an easier way for users who love Dropbox for collaboration, whether for business or pleasure, to communicate regarding files. Comments are available for your own files as well as those shared with you by others. Here are further details for using this new feature:

  • Mentioning someone’s name or email address in a comment using the “@” symbol will send that person an email notification.
  • If you have shared a file with another person, you will receive a notification any time they add a comment.
  • The feature can be used by anyone with access to a shared link, but can be turned off if you do not want others to comment.
  • Microsoft Office integration means that you can stay within the browser to add your comment. Just use the Office Online editing or desktop app and your changes will be saved in Dropbox automatically.

From Nikhil Bhargava, Dropbox Blog:

Our Dropbox for Business early access users have been trying out commenting for the past month. Thanks to their great feedback, we’re excited to roll out commenting to all our users today on the web (and coming soon on mobile).

The Dropbox app is available for free on the App Store. There are in-app purchase options for Dropbox Pro account upgrades which include more storage space.

Be sure to check back with AppAdvice for an update on when the commenting feature will be available for the Dropbox mobile app.
