Enjoy Handoff and Citymapper support in Foursquare
The world’s most popular crowd-sourced local search and discovery app, Foursquare, has just pushed out a major update. In addition to other new features and bug fixes, Foursquare can now use Handoff with the iPad and Mac and boasts integration with Citymapper.
Citymapper integration gives you easy, real-time directions access to transit service information. If you want to know how to get to that great new spot you’ve discovered, you can quickly access Citymapper from within Foursquare to help you get there.
Now that Handoff support is included in Foursquare, you can start exploring a place on your iPhone and then continue right where you left off on your iPad. Just drag the Foursquare icon on the Lock screen of your iPad upward, and you’ll launch the places-discovery application on the bigger screen.
Handoff support also extends the Foursquare experience to your Mac. You can open a place from the iOS app in a browser on your Mac to get even more details and information.
Of course, no update would be complete without performance enhancements and bug fixes. Foursquare 8.1 includes a number of speed improvements and squished bugs.
Checkins and other gamification features, which used to be the mainstay of the Foursquare app, have been removed from the program. If you still want to check into places and write reviews, you should use Foursquare’s other app, Swarm, which is also available free on the App Store. Foursquare is also available for free on the App Store.
