Gneo shows the beauty of Apple Watch design without their own smartwatch
When Apple began encouraging developers to create apps for its smartwatch, Cupertino provided them with a set of Human Interface Guidelines. Many apps have been built using these directives, but the developers behind to-do app Gneo opted to forge their own path and use a totally different visual language for their Apple Watch companion.
There were many limitations of the WatchKit SDK, but perhaps the largest challenge for any app developer was crafting their software without the benefit of having an actual Apple Watch to test on. While some developers had the benefit of working on their code in Apple’s secret lab, not all programmers were able to take advantage of that testbed.
Gneo enlisted the aid of smartwatch designer Gábor Balogh to develop their smartwatch app, and the results are beautiful. Coordinating with Gneo on the iPhone, the to-do app syncs with Evernote and any calendar in a unique, simple, but gorgeous design aesthetic. The Apple Watch companion allows you to see your upcoming 7-day schedule as well as glance at today’s schedule. You can also see urgent and priority tasks, as well as viewing everything else on your to-do list. Through location- and time-based notifications, you get reminders to make sure you don’t miss a thing.
