Best new apps of the week: Pacemaker and Typorama
Every week, our staff will handpick an app from the past two weeks that we believe is a must-have download for your iPhone or iPad. These apps will always be from various categories, but they are chosen because our own staff members love it and have been using them daily. So here are this week’s picks! Enjoy!
Pacemaker – Your personal mix. Instantly!Ever wish you could have your own personal DJ in your pocket that gives you the perfect mix of songs every time? Now you can thanks to our App of the Week, Pacemaker.
This sleek app features a minimalistic design that is simple yet intuitive to use at the same time. The black background color used makes it easy to see your album art, song progress, and the upcoming song that will overlap with the current playing track once it ends due to the mint green and fuchsia colors. And even if you have no DJ experience, Pacemaker makes it easy to customize the sound with effects and large, responsive buttons.
Pacemaker can be used with either your own iTunes music library or a premium Spotify account. There’s a built-in search feature so you can find what you want, then pick the songs you want to mix, and the app will get to work. While all you need is one song, picking multiple ones is an option, and makes the mix even more interesting. The mix is perfectly tailored depending on what songs were picked, so you are bound to end up with something good.
To customize the sound quality, just tap on the “fx” button in the center of the album artwork. This brings up a circular menu of three initial options, including Bass, Middle, and Treble. These can be adjusted by dragging your finger around the ring, so it’s super easy to use. Pacemaker also has plenty of other sound effects, though these have to be bought through in-app purchases starting at $1.99 a pop. Some effects are also exclusive to the iPad.
We’ve been getting a kick out of Pacemaker since it’s a great app for creating a nice mix of tunes to listen to, regardless of the mood you’re in. If you want a slick music player to give you the best mixes all day long, then make sure to give this a whirl. Pacemaker can be found on the App Store as a universal app for free with in-app purchases.

Honorable Mention TyporamaDo you love creating and sharing inspirational quote overlays on top of powerful images to motivate others? Then you’re going to get a kick out of our Honorable Mention this week, Typorama.
Typorama sports a slick design that is as awesome to look at as it is to use. No matter what mood you’re in, the app makes it super intuitive to make your own inspirational text graphics by choosing a background, typing in your text, customizing the font and typeface with different styles, and then saving it to share with your favorite social networks.
While you may have a great quote to share with others, sometimes you could end up with a blank. Fortunately, Typorama also has plenty of pre-installed quotes that you can use with your own image for a great result in just a few taps. Each text design is generated by the selections chosen, so this app doesn’t have mere templates — everything is unique and customized. There are even photo filters and adjustment tools to make the perfect image, various text options, thousands of free images from Pixabay, and even high resolution output. This means Typorama is great for your next event flyer, poster, blog banner, or whatever else you can think of.
We’re enjoying what Typorama has to offer, and if you want a fun app to make sharing quotes easier than ever, give this app a try. You can find it on the App Store as a universal download for $1.99.
