The World Around You

There are a lot of terrific apps available for reading the news, but what about listening to the news instead? The new Ekko Player app lets you hear the top headlines and featured stories without having to stare at the screen. What’s even better is that you can control the app with voice commands, which makes this a totally hands-free experience.

To set up Ekko Player you can choose which sections you would like news from including: business, entertainment, sports, technology, U.S. news, and world news. Inside each section are the channels you can select. ABC News, Time, The Guardian, CNN, and more are among the selections. Then just sit back and listen.

Voice commands are available with Ekko Player so that you can move through stories easily. You can use commands such as “next” or “previous” to move through headlines. You can say “play” or “stop” to start and stop the voicecast. You can even pause the app by using the “sleep” command.

There is a handy tutorial with a complete set of instructions for screen and voice commands. The settings are basic with choices for the accent of the voice you hear such as American, Australian, or British. You can also adjust the voicecasting speed.

The Ekko Player app is a convenient tool for getting your news on the go. The app is available for free with no in-app purchases on the App Store.
