Best new apps of the week: Moleskine Timepage and Atmos

App-dicted
June 15, 2015

Every week, our staff will handpick an app from the past two weeks that we believe is a must-have download for your iPhone or iPad. These apps will always be from various categories, but they are chosen because our own staff members love it and have been using them daily. So here are this week’s picks! Enjoy!

Moleskine Timepage

Show off your calendar and weather with some analog flair in our App of the Week.

Looking for a calendar app that brings back a bit of analog style while also giving you the forecast? Then look no further than our App of the Week, Moleskine Timepage.

This stylish app features a classic and retro look and feel that matches that of Moleskine notebooks and planners. The default color theme looks great, but the app provides many different colors to choose from, so users are able to find and pick one that matches their mood the best. The typeface used is easy to read and looks sharp on Retina screens. The subtle animations in the app are smooth and fluid, with seamless transitions between screens.

Timepage works with iCloud, Google, and Exchange calendars, but you have to log in to them within the app. At the moment, they do not pull data from the native Calendar app, though this is coming in the future. Multiple accounts are supported at least.

The main view in Timepage is the timeline, which displays your schedule of events in an agenda-style list, with the dates shown on the left margin. Scroll through your calendar vertically, and a button appears at the top or bottom to bring you back to today with a single tap. Swiping from the left reveals the weather panel, and you can tap on a day for full details, such as travel time, maps, weather, invitees, and more. Pulling down on a single day view allows you to bring up the new event creation screen, where you can use natural language input to add a new appointment. Timepage even has full invite support if you like to invite others or receive a lot of invitations.

The Apple Watch app for Timepage shows your schedule for the next seven days and you can view the basic weather info from the small screen. If there is a location for an event, you can tap on it to bring up directions in Apple Maps.

We’ve been enjoying Moleskine Timepage for managing our schedules and knowing what the forecast will bring at the same time. If you are looking for a stylish calendar and weather app, then this one is definitely worth your time. You can get Moleskine Timepage on the App Store for the iPhone for $4.99.

Honorable Mention Atmos – Weather for your iPhone and Apple Watch

Get a beautiful look at the weather with our Honorable Mention pick.

In search of the latest gorgeous weather app to hit the market? Then you should be checking out our Honorable Mention this week, Atmos Weather by Enormego.

This beautiful weather app features stunning color themes that match various weather conditions that you encounter on a daily basis. On top of that, the sans serif typeface is legible and looks fantastic with the design of the app itself. For finishing touches, the developers chose to implement a custom status bar at the top of the screen to go with the rest of the app aesthetics — while this may take a bit of getting used to, it works well. All animations in Atmos are smooth and fluid, and navigation is as intuitive as they come.

By default, Atmos will have several locations added already, but they can be deleted or edited at any time. For best results, you should give the app permission for your location so the forecast is always up-to-date with you. An unlimited number of cities can be saved in Atmos for your viewing pleasure.

With multiple locations, Atmos displays a grid of tiles that represent each saved locale. Tapping on one brings up the full detail screen, where you can see the present temperature, condition, text forecasts for the next hour and day, as well as the hourly forecast graph and seven-day forecast. A tap on the large temperature number brings up more info, such as high and lows, cloud coverage, wind speed, and moon phase. All of the data the app uses is fairly accurate, since it is coming from Forecast.io.

Atmos comes with both a widget for the Notification Center as well as an Apple Watch companion app. The widget offers a fair bit of customization in terms of appearances.

We always love new weather apps at AppAdvice, and Atmos is worth a look. You can get Atmos – Weather for your iPhone and Apple Watch on the App Store for $2.99.
