A popular app for books and reading has just received an update putting it above most others. Oyster – The Best Way to Read Books has just released version 2.2 of the app with an awesome display adjustment feature called Lumin. Lumin adjusts your display automatically throughout the day and night. So, if you enjoy reading at bedtime this feature is extremely handy.

Oyster Lumin DayOyster’s Lumin will use your location to adjust the brightness and tone of your display according to the time of day. You can also manually change the Lumin settings based on your preference. Choose both your background shade and brightness accordingly with Custom mode. But, the real advantage of the new Lumin feature is the automatic changing of the display for you, so that you never have to worry about having the best reading experience due to lighting.

While iBooks and Kindle both offer display adjustments, neither offers one that works automatically like Oyster’s Lumin. It is easy to forget to adjust the display when you go from reading in the morning to reading in bed at night. That is why the Lumin feature will be such a hit with Oyster users.

Oyster’s Lumin feature works similarly to F.lux which happens to be available for Mac, iOS, Windows, and Linux. F.lux also adjusts your display depending on your location and time of day. Services and features such as this are sure to become more popular, at least we hope so. For so many who stare at a screen all day or night, automatic adjustments for lighting really help to ease eye strain.

The Oyster app offers millions of books to choose from, recommendations, exclusive author interviews, and offline reading. The app offers a free trial for iPhone or iPad with in-app subscription purchase offers.
