Fling even more avian destruction in Angry Birds 2
How do you follow up on the success of one of the biggest mobile games of all time? You release a sequel that’s even bigger and better, and mix things up by giving the player more control over how they play the game. That’s exactly what the developers at Rovio have done with Angry Birds 2, which smashed into the App Store today, July 30.
Choose your birdsIn Angry Birds 2, you get to choose which bird you use, instead of flinging them in a predetermined order. If the Blues are in the slingshot and you’d rather toss Chuck at the bad pigs, you just tap on his card and he immediately hops in and is ready to fling. Before you think this makes the game easier, remember that you have to really plan which of your feathered friends you’re going to use for each shot to maximize destruction. To add to the mayhem, new birds have been added to your arsenal.
Cast a spell to give you an edgeTo give you an added advantage over the egg-stealing swine, you now have spells you can cast. Blizzards, Hot Chilis, Golden Ducks, and other spells can help you when you need it, and the Mighty Eagle has returned to the game.
Multiplayer actionA welcome part of Angry Birds 2 is the Arena, where you can challenge other players from across the world to see who is the best bird flinger of them all. If you connect the game to Facebook, you can play in daily tournaments to earn feathers and level up your birds.
Get your birds ready to flingAngry Birds 2 is available for free on the App Store, but does contain in-app purchases. The game description also suggests the possibility of in-game advertisements, but I have not yet encountered any.
Angry Birds 2 is designed for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and requires iOS 7 or later. Rovio advises that owners of devices older than the iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad mini 2, or fifth-generation iPod touch might not have a smooth experience with the game.
