Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition dares you to survive
The game of true survival from the PC world has landed on the App Store for iPad. Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition has you enter a whimsical wilderness world where you start with nothing and must gather your resources to survive. With your help, Wilson the scientist must use his skills and wits to endure the elements and face danger to find a way home.
Gather resources
Wilson’s movements are controlled by touch, so making him walk around is simple. Tap to grab an item for the inventory, such as things you can eat and tools for building items. Everything gathered is displayed nicely along the bottom of the screen. Use items you find such as twigs and flint to create a torch when it starts getting dark. Or, try your hand at building a trap for small creatures. Continue to gather items that can be examined and used.
Watch out for dangers
There are all sorts of dangers lurking in Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition. Look out hives full of bees, beware of odd creatures in the worm hole, and be cautious when the sun starts to go down. You need to explore the worlds to survive, but you also need to be very careful and remember, darkness is not your friend.
It’s all you
There is no tutorial and no help to guide you through this game, so it is all you, and Wilson of course. The 2-D graphics are cool as are the sound effects, which both add to the game experience. You will hear not only the birds flapping around you, but also the munching if you happen to get eaten by something in the dark.
Can you make it? Can you survive? Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition is currently available for $4.99 on the App Store and is designed for iPad only.
