Fight your fear of the walking dead with these games
The premiere episode of “Fear the Walking Dead” might be behind us, but that doesn’t mean the zombie fun has to be over. There are plenty of games on the App Store that feature zombies as your enemies, so there is no reason why you can’t fight the undead on your own in between episodes. These five games are some of my favorite zombie-slaying titles.
Dead Trigger 2
This game lets you play your part in saving the world from zombies and win real prizes in tournaments designed just for zombie-killing fun. You can travel across 10 different regions around the world, exploring 33 unique environments. For annihilating zombies, you can take your pick from 38 different weapons. Dead Trigger 2 is free on the App Store with in-app purchases to boost your supply of in-game currency.
Zombie Hunter: Apocalypse
In this title, you are a former marine tasked with killing as many of the walking dead as you can, playing through various scenarios full of intricate challenges. You can arm yourself with a variety of sniper rifles, assault weapons, or even bazookas, hunting those zombies who try to prey on humans, with the goal of saving the world from a zombie apocalypse. Zombie Hunter: Apocalypse is a free download on the App Store, supported by in-app purchases to get game currency used to buy weapons and supplies.
Age of Zombies
Barry Steakfries, the star of Jetpack Joyride, has to lock and load through the history of time to kill off various types of zombies and still make it home in time for dinner. Hordes of the undead have been sent to the furthest reaches of time to destroy mankind, so you get to go up against these fiends with a cache of weapons, a Zombie T-Rex, and a whole repertoire of cheesy one-liners. Age of Zombies is available for $0.99 on the App Store, without any in-app purchases.
Stupid Zombies 3
In this puzzle-ridden game, the zombies all stand still and wait for you to shoot them. It’s not quite that easy, though, since there are walls and boxes, along with other obstacles, in the path of your ricocheting bullets, flares, baseballs, and rocket-propelled grenades. Aim your shot carefully to take out as many of the standing dead as you can, and watch the mayhem. Stupid Zombies 3 is free on the App Store, with in-app purchases that you can buy to get gold used for more lives.
Zombie Highway 2
Now, for a different type of zombie-killing mayhem, customize your car and arm your passenger to take on the walking dead as you fly down the highway. You’ll have to avoid obstacles, smash zombies that latch onto your car, or run down the undead before they can even shamble onto your tricked-out ride. A growing arsenal of handguns, shotguns, and automatics is at your disposal to take down the shambling beasts. Zombie Highway 2 is a free download on the App Store, with in-app purchases for game currency used to arm yourself and customize your car.
I hope you enjoy these zombie-killing games as much as I do. Stopping hordes of shambling undead from taking over the world is a sometimes hilarious diversion from the daily grind, and I think it’s the perfect complement to watching “Fear the Walking Dead” on AMC.
