If you can’t get enough ghostbusting fun out of Bandai Namco and Hipster Whale’s Pac-Man 256, there is even more in store for you. In the latest update to Crossy Road, you can now switch from a chicken to Pac-Man, complete with ghosts to dodge and Pac-Dots to collect.
Finding Pac-Man amidst all the characters
When I learned about the new character in Crossy Road, the first thing I did was look for it. Then I looked for it some more, and kept on searching. It’s not easy to find, as you might have guessed from the last two sentences. You have to go into the character chooser and swipe all the way to the end of the available options, even past the ones that say they aren’t available from the Prize Machine. Currently, Pac-Man is the very last character in the lineup. It’s a free in-app purchase, so you don’t have to pay anything to start enjoying some Pac-filled fun in Crossy Road.
A whole new game board
When you choose the Pac-Man character, the entire playing field changes to one inspired by the arcade classic. Instead of roads and trees, you’ll see a maze-like gameboard that you have to hop across. Coins have been replaced with Pac-Dots, and there’s no eagle coming to catch you. However, The Glitch is here from Pac-Man 256 to kill you if you take too long to hop forward. There are various ghosts in the place of cars and trucks, and there are even power pellets to let you turn the table and send them running.
A refreshing change of pace
I never thought about mixing Pac-Man with Frogger, but it’s definitely a nice combination. I enjoy Crossy Road, and the latest update makes the game even more fun and unique.
Getting in the game
You can download Crossy Road for free on the App Store. There are ads and in-app purchases in the game, but the Pac-Man character is free. Crossy Road is designed for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and requires iOS 7 or later.
