Review: Pad & Quill’s Luxury Pocket Stand for Apple Watch

August 5, 2015

Looking for a soft place to rest your Apple Watch as it charges? Pad & Quill recently sent me their Luxury Pocket Stand for Apple Watch to review, so let’s take a look.

The Facts:

Company:  Pad & Quill
Product: Luxury Pocket Stand for Apple Watch
Price: $79.99 to $109.99
Compatibility: All models of Apple Watch
Colors: Mahogany, Cherry, Sapele, and Walnut
Date: July 29, 2015

Pad & Quill offers a number of elegant accessories for Apple products, so it’s no surprise that they’ve branched out into the world of Apple Watch. The Luxury Pocket Stand for Apple Watch is aptly named. Carved from a single piece of wood, the stand is simple but cleverly designed. The softness of the wood and its smooth curves are a welcome change from the typical metal stand. The visual contrast of the industrial-looking watch and the timeless warmth of wood is quite pleasing. The stands are hand finished with furniture-grade oil, not painted, so the natural wood colors and grains are on display.

The stand comes folded flat. You open it up and fold it back for a perfect resting and viewing angle for the watch. Insert your Apple Watch charger and thread it underneath so it’s out of the way. This bit of cord management is nice. The Apple Watch slides right in and onto the stand. I found this setup worked very well for me, I was able to see the time from bed with just a tap. The watch feels quite secure. Both two piece and one piece bands like the Milanese will work in this stand.

If you want to take the stand with you on the go, you can keep the charging disk in place. Unthread the cord, close the stand, and wrap the cord around the whole thing before slipping it into the included drawstring sack or a pocket. It’s compact and lightweight which is ideal for travel.

The only downside is that this stand is not designed to be used with the upcoming watchOS 2 Nightstand mode. This is not a deal-breaker for me, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’ll want to use that feature.

Bottom Line:

This is an absolutely beautiful stand for the Apple Watch. It’s not cheap, but it’s high quality. The Luxury Pocket Stand for Apple Watch is available in four different woods listed here from lightest to darkest: American Cherry for $79.99, African Mahogany for $79.99, Exotic Sapele for $89.99,  and American Walnut for $109.99.
