Adidas gets into fitness trackers with Runtastic Moment
When you’re trying to track your fitness with a wearable device, you want a modern tracker that fits your fashion style. For many people, that means a quality traditional watch that still has all of the functionality of a modern fitness tracker, but it’s also important that the smartwatch be customizable. That’s the goal Runtastic, recently acquired by adidas Group for $240 million, is addressing with the new Moment line of devices.
Designing a fitness tracker watch that will appeal to everyone
The Runtastic Moment was designed to meet the needs of all types of users, with offerings of four unique styles with different size watch faces, types of bands, and colors. All of the models in the Runtastic Moment range of products synchronize with software available on the App Store, turning what looks like a traditional watch into a comprehensive fitness tracker. The Runtastic Moment is an analog watch, but it is capable of helping users track steps and distance, active minutes, calories burned, sleep cycles, and goals.
The Moment is waterproof to 300 feet, can be worn even when swimming or diving, and is powered by a standard watch battery. That means there is no need to recharge the device, but the battery is only expected to last for six months before needing to be replaced.
Tracking your fitness
A progress indicator on the watch face allows users to monitor their daily progress directly from the wearable device, while vibration alerts can be set to go off after configurable periods of inactivity.
Users can also track their fitness goals using the Runtastic Me app, which was launched last year as the dashboard for the Orbit wearable. The app has been expanded to support the Runtastic Moment, with data synchronizing wirelessly to Runtastic Me via Bluetooth so you can easily check your progress and statistics. Runtastic Me provides game-like features like Streaks, where you can set and break personal records. The app also provides detailed information about sleep cycles, including duraction and both light and deep sleep phases.
The variations of the wearable device
The Runtastic Moment is available in ten designs organized into four collections. Each device’s silicon or leather strap can be easily switched with any standard watch band.
The Runtastic Moment Fun is made with a stainless steel case, scratch-resistant glass, and a silicon strap available in raspberry, plum, sand, and indigo, retailing for $129.99.
The Runtastic Moment Basic retails for $129.99 and is similar to the Fun, but has a larger display and is available in beige and black.
The Runtastic Moment Elite provides a more sophisticated look, with a stainless steel case, scratch-resistant glass, and a black leather band for $179.99.
Finally, the Runtastic Moment Classic is also $179.99, and it offers a stainless steel case, scratch-resistant glass, and a leather band.
The Runtastic Moment collection is available for purchase directly from the company, with a roll-out to select retailers expected in the future. The Runtastic Me app is a free download on the App Store.
