Apple Pay now lets you use the Discover card in your Wallet
There’s good news for iPhone and Apple Watch owners who use Discover cards. Discover, which has long been a holdout from the Apple Pay network, has finally caught up with the times. Beginning Sept. 16 with the release of iOS 9, you can activate your Discover card within Cupertino’s mobile payment service.
Since the credit card company is showing up late to the party, it’s offering an extra bonus if they use Apple Pay. In addition to other rewards packages they might have, Discover is giving 10 percent cash back on all in-store purchases to a total of $10,000 spent using Apple Pay through the rest of the year.
Discover It Miles, Discover Miles and Discover Escape cards will also earn an extra 10 miles per dollar under the promotion, again up to a $10,000 limit. Heather Roche, vice president of rewards at Discover, announced in a statement the company’s excitement to be part of Apple Pay.
We are excited for Discover cardmembers to have the ability to use Apple Pay. Rewards have always been important to our cardmembers, and we want to make sure they receive a generous offer for shopping with Discover and Apple Pay. We want to encourage new and existing Discover cardmembers to add their Discover card to Apple Pay with a few simple clicks using our mobile app, take advantage of this 10% Cashback Bonus, and experience the ease and convenience of using Apple Pay.
It’s good to see another card option available for Apple Pay, but there are still plenty of other holdouts that need to come to terms with the fact that the payment processing service is safe and secure. As long as those stalwarts refuse to join the fiesta, there will be a large number of people for whom Apple Pay is just a myth, not a reality.
