From The New York Times Company comes their first virtual reality film, “The Displaced.” Centered around a cover story in the newspaper on the global refugee crisis, this video tells the story of three children driven from their homes. See what Hana, Chuol, and Oleg see, right along with them, using the NYT VR app.
After downloading the video, hold your device and turn, walk, or spin to pan the scene. You will see each of the three children separately in the film in their current location and can explore the area with them. You can pause the video at any time and look at their surroundings with the 360-degree views.
NYT VR contains a few other interesting films that you might enjoy too. Explore “Walking New York” or “Nature Is Inspiring Our Industrial Future.” You can see the length and size of each film on the main screen before downloading it.
You can view the films on NYT VR with your iPhone or using the Google Cardboard viewer. This weekend, Sunday home delivery subscribers will receive a viewer with The New York Times and Times Insider subscribers will receive promotion codes in an email to redeem it.
Just using the iPhone to view the films is an overall engaging video experience. With compelling stories from The New York Times Company, the app takes you places you haven’t seen and lets you feel as if you are really there.
NYT VR is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and is available for free on the App Store.
