Serious musicians need tools that can help them practice and perform at their best, without the utilities getting in the way. This was often hard to accomplish in the past, since multiple tools, such as a metronome and tuner, would clutter up the music stand. An all-in-one app, Practice+, combines all of the most important things a musician needs into a single, intuitive title.
Perhaps the most important utility for a musician, the metronome is available in its own screen as well as directly within every other mode within the app. The design of the metronome toolbar takes a simplified approach, with the play and pause button integrated directly into the beats-per-minute setting. Changing tempo on the fly is as simple as pressing the plus and minus signs, and the app even allows you to change metronome sounds to fit how you prefer to practice.
Tuning and practicing
When you’re warming up and tuning your instrument, Practice+ makes this easy. Once you give the app access to your microphone, it can automatically detect what note you’re playing and how in-tune (or out-of-tune) it is. On the other hand, switching a toggle within the tuner mode provides you with a pitch pipe to get that note just right. Other modes allow you to loop through difficult passages, gradually increasing the tempo as you get more at ease with the segment. You can also record your practice sessions to listen to later. With the latest update, your recordings can be uploaded directly to your Dropbox account. For those of you with an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, the app even utilizes 3D Touch Quick Actions to give you a shortcut to one of your last three used modes straight from the Home screen.
