Leap and bound over terrain and critters in Hoppy Naut
Side-scrolling jumping games are endless fun, and I love seeing new takes on the genre. One of the latest entries, Hoppy Naut, has controls easy enough for the most casual of gamers to learn, but the game still presents plenty of challenges.
Hopping astronauts exploring strange new worlds
In Hoppy Naut, you take the role of an astronaut beamed down to the surface of an ever-changing planet. There are a wide variety of characters to choose from, each with abilities that make them indispensable on certain types of terrain. Yes, the game features various types of land, such as grass, snow, sand, and even cake. That’s right, cake. It’s an alien world, after all.
Hop around and over obstacles and critters
There are plenty of chasms in your way, along with rivers and other obstacles. That’s why it’s great that your astronaut is so, well, hoppy. You leap and bound over the obstacles. When creepy crawlies like snails or bees get in your way, you jump on them to squish them and earn coins.
Use coins to unlock new astronauts
You start off with one astronaut, and can unlock new ones either through in-app purchases or using coins. You pick up coins along the way through each level, either as floating treasures or by knocking off creepy crawlies that stand in your way. This makes the game playable without spending any actual money, even if it might take you longer to unlock the characters you want.
Get hopping
Hoppy Naut is designed for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and requires iOS 6 or later. You can download Hoppy Naut for free on the App Store. There are ads in the game, but you can unlock an ad-free version with an in-app purchase.
