Mirror your Mac to your Apple TV with Remote Buddy Display
My fourth-generation Apple TV is nice, but it is still lacking in some key areas. For example, there is no native way to display a Web page or a Keynote presentation. For that, you need a way to mirror your Mac’s desktop to your Apple TV. You could use a AirPlay or a VNC connection, or you could try an app such as Remote Buddy Display.
Fully capable appRemote Buddy Display has a number of features most other solutions lack. For example, you can turn your Siri Remote into a trackpad or remote, or use a virtual keyboard to type on your Mac. Remote Buddy Display also offers app control and other features that AirPlay and VNC lack.
Poor display qualityUnfortunately, Remote Buddy Display suffers from poor video quality in some cases. As you can see below, there is quite a bit of pixelation around my icons and text, making the display look muddy and garbled.
Free, and yet notThe second problem with Remote Buddy Display is that it is advertised as being a free solution, but it really isn’t. The companion app required on your Mac to use Remote Buddy Display comes with a 30-day free trial, but after that you’ll have to pay €24.99 (approximately $27.22 in United States dollars) to keep using the app.
Still a worthy contenderRemote Buddy Display, despite its cost and limitations, is still a worthy contender for mirroring your Mac’s display to your Apple TV. If you want to give it a try, just search for “Remote Buddy Display” on the tvOS App Store.
