Getting Stuff Done

Launchers are handy tools that allow you to open apps and perform actions quickly, normally from one spot. Some have Today Widgets to do things with a tap while others have additional features by opening the launcher app. LaunchCode Shortcut is one that has a Today Widget, gesture-based actions, and supports 3D Touch.

LaunchCodeLaunchCode basics

You can easily set up both App and Go (action) shortcuts with LaunchCode and pick your own gesture or icon for each. Here are just a few examples of what you can do:

  • Draw an “F” to open Facebook
  • Draw an “M” to compose a text message
  • Draw an “E” to compose an email
  • Draw an arrow to get directions from the Maps app

LaunchCode features

When creating shortcuts, not only can you assign a gesture and icon, but also schedule an alert and have it repeat. You can even upload your own photo instead of using an in-app icon. If you own an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you can use 3D Touch to access your shortcuts. LaunchCode also includes a Today Widget that allows you to switch between your App and Go shortcuts for easy access to your most used tools and actions.

LaunchCodeOverall thoughts

LaunchCode comes with some preset apps and actions that you can use or edit. It is very easy to assign a gesture and you can select the sensitivity as well. What confused me a bit was setting up and accessing the Go shortcuts. When I applied the gesture within the app to compose a text message to my friend, I received a message that the action could only be performed from the Today Widget. However, when I applied the gesture for the Maps app in the same spot, it opened the app as expected.

But, overall this launcher does provide convenience and can definitely save you a few taps and eliminate app-fumbling. LaunchCode Shortcut Free is available on the App Store with ads and an in-app purchase at $1.99 for five additional shortcuts. Or, you can check out the full version of LaunchCode Shortcut for $3.99 which comes with unlimited apps and actions. Both are compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
