Today’s Apps Gone Free: Convertible, Hocus, Blend and More
Universal:
Blend allows you to show your true colors. Color wheels are placed at the top and bottom of the screen. Tap and drag inside of a wheel to adjust the color for the corresponding half of the screen. Perform a two-finger rotation gesture to adjust the angle of the gradient. Double-tap a wheel to swap the color positions. You can also adjust the brightness of each color by dragging up and down the side of the screen. If you have no idea what you want, just shake to randomly blend colors.
Blend – Create gradient wallpapers is available for free for a limited time. It has a 5-star rating with a total of 9 ratings.
Various amounts of cards will appear on the screen face down. Your child can tap on them to reveal what’s on the flip side. They must then find all of the matching pairs of shapes and colors to complete each game. When tapped on, your child is able to hear the object or color pronounced. The app also includes a Show Me mode where the cards are all face up, making it easier to play.
Kids Card Matching Educational Shapes and Color Learning Game for Toddlers is available for free for a limited time. It has a 5-star rating with a total of 21 ratings.
Convertible is able to convert units of measurement, currency, and a whole bunch of non-standard and real-world units. Non-standard and real-world units consist of things like tigers, red blood cells, AAA batteries, and baseball bats. The app’s intuitive interface allows you to just slide the unit categories and measurements left and right to choose them. Conversions can be swapped and shared via Twitter or email. The app also includes 19 themes to choose from.
Convertible – Unit & Currency Converter (convert almost anything) is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 312 ratings.
We like Word Mess because it’s accessible to gamers of all ages. At the beginning of each round you’re presented with a word or type of word that must be discovered among the mess. You have a limited amount of time to track it down and tap on it. You’re able to play all on your own or compete with your friends in head-to-head battles. You’re also able to compare your skills via Game Center.
Word Mess is available for free for a limited time. It has a 4.5-star rating with a total of 727 ratings.
Not everything is as it appears in Hocus. Each puzzle is an illusion. You must move the cube by swiping in an available direction and get it into its target area. A circle at the top of the screen indicates which direction the cube can move. Hocus includes 100 hand-crafted puzzles and the ability to create and share your own.

- It must have at least a three-star average rating at the time it goes free.
- The app must not have been free numerous times (3+) over the last six months.
