Speech Therapy for Apraxia-4

Speech Therapy for Apraxia-4

Blue Whale Apps Inc

This app is a convenient, effective tool for:
• children with childhood apraxia of speech/dyspraxia
• adults with apraxia
• anyone working with individuals with apraxia, either therapists or parents
• can also be used for traditional articulation practice

As with the original Speech Therapy for Apraxia app, this app presents phonemes in simple syllables. However, this time the syllables have the consonant sound at the end, allowing for practice of final consonant production.

This app is a fun way to practice basic speech sounds and motor planning. Because the emphasis is on the individual’s production, the parent or therapist should be an active participant, providing the user with feedback, reinforcement, and additional modeling. This app is not intended for independent use by the child/student.

Speech Therapy for Apraxia - ENDINGS is intended to be the next step in a progression after the two-syllable words of our previous app, Speech Therapy for Apraxia – 2 Syllable Words has been mastered.

** FEATURES **
• Choose from 6 different consonant groups (for a total of 15 consonant sounds) to target.
• Detailed instructions explain how to choose an appropriate sound group and practice level.
• Moves through a logical progression of 8 different levels for motor planning for speech.
• Illustration and audio provided for each syllable.
• Option to repeat levels, reset, or move to next level.
• Can also be used for straight articulation drill for particular types of phonemes.

* NEW PROGRESS TRACKING OPTION REQUIRES IN APP PURCHASE. PROGRESS TRACKING IS NOT INCLUDED WITH BUNDLE OR INDIVIDUAL APP, IT HAS TO BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY*
• Track and save the progress for each user so that you can resume each consonant group and level from where you left off. Great for SLPs who wants to use this for multiple users.
• Sharing your progress via email directly from the app allows for communication between therapist and parent. For parents, practice at home and email your progress to therapist.

Developed by the National Association for Child Development team, including a certified speech-language pathologist, this app practices articulation at the word level and is a logical follow-up to the original syllable-based app, Speech Therapy for Apraxia. This newer version provides choices of different patterns of articulation within words and moves through a progression of levels that challenge motor planning for speech. It begins at the production of single words with easier patterns of articulation and progresses through increasingly more difficult production sequences all the way to the production of sequences of random words.

Wacky Selfie Articulation

Wacky Selfie Articulation

Erik X. Raj

Created by Erik X. Raj, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Wacky Selfie Articulation is a comprehensive collection of over 450 hilarious sound-specific stickers that can be placed on top of a selfie photo to turn a regular selfie into a wacky one. Designed for speech-language pathologists, this photo-based app was made to be used with youngsters who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. It is intended to aid in the remediation of articulation impairments, as well as auditory and language difficulties because students often need practice in more than one area of communication.

This speech therapy app features:

-A child-friendly interface: simple and intuitive, a wonderful experience from start to finish!

-Tons of sound-specific stickers: with just a tap of a finger, children and clinicians snap a selfie and instantly add one of over 450 sound-specific stickers directly on top of their heads!

-Loads of giggles: before, during, and after each selfie is taken, oodles and oodles of laughter will fill the speech therapy room!

-A spectacular save feature: after looking at and talking about the selfie, tap the Save button to save the photo directly to the device's camera reel!

Information:

Like it or not, 'selfie photos' are now a modern fact of life and people of all ages enjoy taking selfies. The iconic self-portraiture has been finding it's way into every aspect of daily living, so why not let selfies exist within the speech therapy room? Wacky Selfie Articulation takes advantage of camera technology to create a truly unique speech therapy experience for all students who love taking selfies. In short, Wacky Selfie Articulation gives a youngster the opportunity to snap a selfie of him or herself and, like magic; the application randomly adds a sound-specific sticker right on top of the student's head! This was done all in an effort to encourage the user to talk about the hilarious object that has been added to the selfie (thus, giving the youngster more opportunities to practice proper pronunciation and articulation strategies with caring communication partners).

The format of Wacky Selfie Articulation is a departure from traditional articulation drill materials and is effective for students ages 6 and up. Because of the personal selfie approach, students enjoy talking about the various photos of themselves with their friends and classmates outside of the speech therapy room, further practicing their communication skills and thereby facilitating the sometimes difficult stage of carrying over newly-acquired skills. By talking about the selfies with the youngster, paraprofessionals in the classroom and/or parents at home can reinforce the targeted articulation skills while sharing a fun activity. Practicing these skills in environments outside the speech therapy setting increases opportunities for generalization.

I invite you to use Wacky Selfie Articulation to spice up your speech therapy sessions. All of the sound-specific stickers are intended to initiate excitement and humor. And in all honesty, each selfie has the potential to spark conversations that could lead almost anywhere. Even a selfie that appears simple can trigger a unique thought that surprises all parties involved.

Regardless of when, where, or how Wacky Selfie Articulation is used within the speech therapy session, one thing is certain, children (as well as clinicians) will have a blast taking selfies and talking about them . . . and in the process, all of the youngsters will continue to practice the correct pronunciation of their sounds. So what are you waiting for? Let your imagination run wild and have fun with this one of a kind photo-based speech therapy material!

Open-Ended Articulation

Open-Ended Articulation

Erik X. Raj

"Top Pick App" - Smart Apps For Kids

"Erik has created a great app that students will have fun with. They might not even notice they're working!" - Home Sweet Speech Room

"It's perfect for carry-over of those later developing sounds!" - Busy Bee Speech

Introduction:

Created by Erik X. Raj, M.S., CCC-SLP, Open-Ended Articulation is an interactive app for your iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, and iPod touch that features a collection of over 500 open-ended questions designed for speech-language pathologists to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH.

Features:

-Tons of content: with just a tap of a finger, children and clinicians can discover over 500 sound specific open-ended questions that are perfect for the speech therapy setting.

-Hear the question: each open-ended question has an exciting narrative audio component to it.

-Hear an answer: each open-ended question has an example audio response that children get a kick out of.

-Child-friendly interface: simple, intuitive, and NO in-app purchases or external links.

Information:

With over 2 hours worth of fun and exciting audio questions and answers, Open-Ended Articulation will trigger a tremendous amount of fantastic conversation in your speech therapy room. It is intended to aid in the remediation of articulation impairments, as well as auditory and language difficulties because clients often need practice in more than one area of communication.

All of the open-ended questions require the student to use creative thinking. The client should come up with as many different ways to complete the sentence as he/she can. This is the time to encourage your student to think outside the box. Do not stop to evaluate or criticize a response. The purpose of these open-ended questions is to generate a free flowing exchange of suggestions and sentence completions with proper target sound productions. Together, you and your students will have a blast getting those creative thinking juices flowing!

The open-ended question format is a departure from traditional articulation drill work and is effective for students ages 6 and up. Because of this unique format, clients enjoy asking the open-ended choice questions to their friends and classmates outside of the speech therapy room, further practicing their communication skills and thereby facilitating the sometimes difficult stage of carrying over newly-acquired skills. By reviewing the questions with the client, paraprofessionals in the classroom and/or parents at home can reinforce the client’s skills while sharing a fun activity. Practicing communication skills in environments outside the speech therapy setting increases opportunities for generalization of communication skills.

Use these questions to spice up your speech therapy sessions. The questions are intended to initiate exciting and lively conversations. Every inquiry has the potential to lead almost anywhere. Even a question that appears simple can trigger a unique thought process and complex response.

Regardless of when, where or how these questions are used within the speech therapy session, one thing is certain, children (as well as clinicians) will have a blast finishing these open-ended questions . . . and in the process they will continue to practice the correct pronunciation of their sounds at the spontaneous conversation level. Let your imagination run wild and have fun with this therapy material!

Me & My Choices – Play and learn to express your preferences, for kids with Autism and other Special Needs

Me & My Choices – Play and learn to express your preferences, for kids with Autism and other Special Needs

C.E.T - THE CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

The Me & My Choices application focuses on identifying the user’s personal choices in two modes, recording the choices based on selected areas of interest, and the possibility of sorting areas of interest based on whether they are liked or disliked.

The application encourages self-expression for children with autism and other special needs and offers people with autism, Down syndrome and other disabilities an environment to practice personal choice and express opinions regarding concepts and activities in the surrounding environment, as chosen by the user and those working with him.
The rationale

Making individual choices, the selection of tasks, games, and expressing opinions about whether they are liked or disliked, is a basis for independent functioning and quality of life. Many individuals in special education frameworks are not asked about their preferences and choices when it comes to much of their daily routine. The use of Me & My Choices calls for work on a variety of areas, while practicing these important skills.

***What’s in the Application?
In the Me & My Choices application, users play a game of roulette centered on personal choices; they create a personal album that collects and records their individual choices, under two game options, “My Choices” or “My Likes and Dislikes.”
1. “My Choices” game
The roulette wheel has six different topics.

2. “My Likes and Dislikes” game
The roulette wheel is divided into six topics, each of which is divided into two sub-topics, “Like” and “Dislike.”

In both games initially the game can be played with the pre-set topics. However, by clicking on the “Edit Topics” button, the topics can then be changed or adapted in line with the user’s individual preferences. After spinning the wheel, a page opens, in the form of a treasure map, and here the user can save his choices. Different methods for entering content can be chosen – typing, recording, adding a picture, or adding a video clip.

***Why is the Me & My Choices application suitable for users with special needs?

1. Content – the application deals with personal choices and self-expression, so significant for users with special needs. The application is an open tool, and users can choose to address content that is relevant to them.
2. A variety of display modes for information, and multi-sensory learning – the information in the application appears using a variety of display modes (text, recordings, illustrations, photographs, and narrated texts). The various display modes support the users’ understanding and expression.
3. Independent work – the application is accompanied by clear explanations for all of the activities. This help is available to users at every stage, and assists in understanding the required actions.
4. Individual adjustment and parental control –Editing and deletion of existing albums can be blocked.
5. Design that is both clear and respectful – the application’s design is appropriate for children and young adolescents, and the graphics are designed to arouse interest, yet are respectful of them.

The Me & My Choices application is part of the Me & My series of applications, a series of interactive, game-based activities that allow the user to work alone or with assistance, and to function meaningfully in the area of personal choices. The aim of the series is to create personal albums in a game-like way, on the subjects of “Me & Myself,” “Me & My Body,” and “Me & My Choices.” The activities in the series encourage the development of individual identity, investigative abilities, the ability to make choices, independent work, sharing, and literacy.

We are certain that you will enjoy working together with your child on the application, and discovering new worlds of individuality.

Me & Myself - Learn to express yourself, for kids and teens with special needs.

Me & Myself - Learn to express yourself, for kids and teens with special needs.

C.E.T - THE CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Me & MySelf is an interactive album that stimulates the user to present himself, his hobbies and his
preferences, through various enjoyable activities.

The application will help kids and teens with special needs to express themselves, formulate their own life preferences, and practice making individual choices.

The application encourages involvement through games and creativity, adapted to children with a range of functional and cognitive levels, working independently.

In designing the app, emphasis was placed on adapting it to users with various levels of literacy – those who can read and write, and those who cannot. Users can type text, record sound, and use images and video clips to express their personal choices in each part of the application.

**The Me & Myself app allows interactive, creative activity under eight different topic headings relevant to the user:

• About Myself

• Me and my Family

• My Home

• I Wish I Was

• Things I'm Good At

• Things I Can Say About Myself

• Me and My Friends

• Moments to Remember

Each topic is divided into small working steps that together create interactive personalized pages in an album.

The Me & Myself album has two modes:
• Edit mode, in which the user can combine images, video clips, stickers, text and recordings, in keeping with the various topics and his own personal preferences. This editing mode can be locked, In the Parental Controls section, to prevent the user from accidentally deleting the album.

• View Mode, in which one can browse through an existing album, and decorate it with stickers. The complete album may be shared with parents, teachers and friends.

**The album framework allows independent, individualized work, and is accompanied by clear, easily-accessed explanations as to how to use all parts of the application.

“This is the richest app that I have encountered in the area of self expression. The application encourages the sharing of personal experiences, and allows self-expression combined with enjoyable games in an attractive, well designed virtual environment, all of which is accessible and adaptable. This is good news for special education” (Dr. Adi Neeman, Special Education).

The rationale behind developing tools for self-expression:

Children and adolescents with special needs (particularly those diagnosed on the autistic spectrum, individuals with communications disorders, and individuals with cognitive disabilities) usually find it difficult to express themselves independently. This difficulty affects the individual’s self-perception and recognition of his own uniqueness and strengths.

Most of them make very few personal choices, due either to the characteristics of their disability or the circumstances of their lives. In many areas, the decisions are made for them. This has implications both for the difficulty in making choices, when this is allowed, and for experiencing and practicing the making of effective choices.

Suitability for users with special needs:

• Personal Content – the application addresses the content areas of personal choice and self-expression, which are significant for users with special needs.
• Multi-sensory learning – Using diverse media to enable users of different learning styles and capabilities such as :Text, audio, images and video clips
• Encouraging self-expression and Independent work
• Personal customization: Individual adjustment and parental control
• Accessibility: the interface is adapted and accessible for special needs individuals with a broad spectrum of disabilities and levels of functioning.
• Detailed, respectful design. The design is adapted for kids, teenagers and adults.

We are certain that you will enjoy working together with your child on the application, and discovering new worlds of individuality.
