A Khwint A Yay

The Rule of Law and Human Rights programme is part of the Denmark-Myanmar Country Programme (2016-2020) endorsed by a bilateral government-to-government agreement between Myanmar and Denmark. A Joint Venture comprised of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) has been contracted to provide technical assistance to the programme through a team of experts supporting implementation.

With the funding from the Denmark Embassy, the Programme has worked closely with the Dagon and East Yangon Universities in support of introduction and integration of human rights education within their law faculties, establishment and operations of the Human Rights Resource Centres (HRRCs) and Legal Information Centres (LICs) at both partner universities. The Law Departments and HRRC librarians are managing the ‘A Khwint A Yay’ App.

Since the proclamation and adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 by the UN General Assembly the international community has progressively developed and defined human rights law, and human rights definitions are comprised within the UDHR and the nine-core international human rights treaties and their optional protocols.

The Programme extends its sincere gratitude to the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) for sharing the already translated version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) for the compilation of International Human Rights Instruments and for the ‘A Khwint A Yay’ mobile application.

Hence, to support the further promotion of human rights and education in Myanmar, the Rule of Law and Human Rights Programme has facilitated translation of all the core international human rights conventions and optional protocols to ensure that the instruments are available in Myanmar language and hence accessible to a greater part of the Myanmar population. This is the sole purpose of ‘A Khwint A Yay’.
