Museum app: discover, try out, and give feedback:
The app is a test version in preparation for the museum's new permanent exhibition. We therefore look forward to your feedback in order to adapt and expand the functions.
Simply scan the QR codes in the exhibition and find out more about the architectural style of the 1920s.
Brick expressionism is a German architectural style that is known for its use of brick façades. It was mainly developed in northern Germany and is characterized by cool, crystalline forms that set it apart from the preceding Historicism. The primary building materials used in this style were brick and clinker. The walls were built using less intensively fired bricks, while the hard-fired clinker bricks were used for the façades, providing a versatile design language. The clinker bricks have a rich range of colours, from red to purple to almost black.
The exhibition in the Brickworks Museum shows current photos of expressionist buildings from Düsseldorf, the Ruhr region and Bielefeld to Hamburg and Berlin. Get an idea of the versatility of brick as a building material.
To accompany the exhibition, students from the Detmolder Schule für Gestaltung will be showing their contemporary interpretations of architectural expressionism.

In the app you will find all the information you need for your visit, such as opening times, events, directions and admission fees.
