NUS Care

NUS Care is a mobile application with the aim to lighten the discomfort of the social scenarios in a clinic and dental visit. Activities of daily living for a child with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be an extremely challenging and stressful affair, for the child, his/her caregiver, and their doctors. By going through various activities and games, the child can be better prepared.

To familiarise the kids to new environments (hospital, clinic, and others), the doctors, occupational therapists, caretakers and even their family members, Care provides a visual storyboard to communicate the common experience of a social situation through pictorial storytelling. The application shall come bundled with a set of social story and visual schedules to educate the standard dental procedures. With children’s customised needs in mind, personalised visual storyboard can be added by the users. The visual storyboard supports captions in combination with photos or short video clips to create stories of varies length. The application will be focusing on kids-friendly user interface to encourage and entice kids interest on the stories.

To motive kids to follow daily routine activities, the application shall gamified these activities. The aim is to promote fun and enjoyment through virtual rewards as well as encouraging reminders.

The application shall provide education resources for parents/caregiver. These resources aims to educate and create awareness about general health. The education resources come in easy-to-read Q&A format, filled with visual images and video-clips.
