Placer is a national work experience app and platform for university students.

Using the latest matchmaking technology, through employer dashboards and student screens, Placer connects employers offering quality opportunities with students. Its mobile app allows students to swipe left or swipe right in search of their perfect work experience match.

Employers need students to graduate with the right skills and attitude for work, and students need work experience to achieve this. Yet, there are many challenges with how work experience is offered and delivered, including a significant shortfall in the volume of work experience opportunities available to the 2.3 million students in the UK.

Brought to market by a partnership of the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB), Jisc and Unite Students, Placer seeks to bring structure and a scaled solution to the work experience market. Key to Placer is its ambition to set a level playing field, ensuring all students get a foot in the door and employers expand their talent pool – ultimately, good for businesses, universities and students.

Businesses, of all sizes, can connect with future talent, through one free post, reaching students from multiple universities. Using Placer, employers can carve out a work experience offer that’s right for their organisation. A day taster, a week, a month or even a year placement - every experience counts, a day can sometimes be all it takes to make an impression. Similarly, students can find their perfect match, accessing a variety of work experience opportunities, based on location, occupation, sector and duration.
