Bubble Witch 2 Saga

Cast a spell and pop some bubbles

Bubble Witch 2 Saga
Magical Bubbles

For those who like bubble shooter games.

The game borrows from Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble in which you fire bubbles from the bottom of the screen to try to make matches of three in the bubble cluster at the top of the screen. It’s a style that is effortless to pick up, and play as you simply drag to aim, release to fire, and there’s a constant directional arrow to help you aim. The most noticeable aspect of the sequel is that King emphasized making the game a lot friendlier and cuter in an attempt to increase the appeal.

Why we love it

Match-three puzzle games are always fun, but it's more fun when you shoot marbles and pop the clusters. Bubble Witch 2 Saga is a charming time-waster that will have you popping bubbles for hours.

For those who...

  • Like King games
  • Enjoy bubble shooter match-three puzzles

Not for those who...

  • Don't like King

Smurfs Bubble Story

The first-ever bubble shooter game from the Smurfs franchise

Smurfs Bubble Story
Pop bubbles

For bubble-popping fans of the Smurfs franchise

Developed by the games division of Sony Pictures Television, Smurfs Bubble Story is something of a tie-in game for the Sony Pictures Animation film “Smurfs: The Lost Village.” But rather than being a village-building simulation game just like the App Store classic Smurfs’ Village, Smurfs Bubble Story is a bubble-popping game played across various magical locations in and around the titular little blue creatures’ literally small town. As with most other bubble-popping mobile games, you play Smurfs Bubble Story by using your finger to aim bubbles at matching ones in order to pop them and clear them off the board. You can also switch bubbles on the launcher, bounce bubbles off the walls, and use boosters and power-ups to suit your strategy. But since this is a Smurfs game, you get to play with Smurfs characters — which should please you a great deal if you’re a fan of the Smurfs franchise (no matter how awful the films may be). In the game, you have to pop matching bubbles to complete missions, and as you complete missions, you can unlock new characters to add to your Smurfs collection, including Smurfette, Nosey, Hefty, Brainy, Clumsy, and more. What’s more, each Smurfs character has unique abilities that can help you progress through the game, including boss levels where you play against none other than the big bad boss of the Smurfs franchise, the evil wizard Gargamel.

Why we love it

Granted, Smurfs Bubble Story doesn’t offer much in the way of novel bubble-popping. But it does manage to offer a visually appealing and aurally pleasing blend of addictive gameplay and character collection featuring elements from an established media franchise.

For those who...

  • are a fan of the Smurfs franchise, particularly the animated film “Smurfs: The Lost Village.”
  • enjoy bubble-popping games.

Not for those who...

  • don’t get what the deal is with the Smurfs.
  • think you’ve seen and played enough of the bubble-popping genre to know better.

Bubble Witch 3 Saga

King’s bubble shooter series aims high with this third installment

Bubble Witch 3 Saga
Improved aiming line

For players who crave magic in bubble shooters

In Bubble Witch 3 Saga, Stella the witch has grown older and wiser. But that’s far from the only significant change in this entry in the popular bubble shooter series. For one thing, Wilbur the cat has been overcome by dark magic and is out to torment Stella and her fairy friends across the enchanted lands of Witch Country. For another, the game features distinct enhancements not only in the realm of graphics but also in terms of gameplay.

Why we love it

The first thing you’ll notice about Bubble Witch 3 Saga is how markedly improved the graphics are, from the new look of Stella down to the tiniest glint of a bubble. But aside from the enticing visuals, there’s the addition of gameplay enhancements, including a tweaked aiming line, new special game modes, and house customization. There’s no doubt about it: Bubble Witch 3 Saga is the best game in the series yet.

For those who...

  • you can get enough of bubble shooting
  • you’re a fan of the Bubble Witch Saga series in particular and King’s games in general

Not for those who...

  • you prefer games that are evidently more challenging
  • you loathe free-to-play games
