Adorable ThermoPeanut Could Be the Smartest Home Gadget Around

September 15, 2016

From light bulbs to refrigerators, smart home devices come in many shapes and sizes. ThermoPeanut shows that the best ones are sometimes the smallest.

Recently released by Sen.se, the $29 ThermoPeanut is a tiny sensor that measures and sends the temperature to your smartphone. The result is quite magical.

Weighing just 7.5 grams, ThemoPeanut features a CR2032 replaceable battery and uses Bluetooth Smart with a range of up to 60 meters.

You can put a ThermoPeanut anywhere, such as a living room, baby’s room, or home office. They even work in refrigerators so you can more carefully measure the temperature of your perishable foods. Each ThermoPeanut ships with a multipurpose Peanut holder clip, key ring, and self-adhesive tape for added flexibility.

ThermoPeanut does a lot more than measure the temperature in a room. As you add more devices, you get a comprehensive view of the temperature throughout your house, thereby helping you make better-informed energy decisions.

About the app

Powering ThermoPeanut is the free SensePeanut app. Besides showing the current temperature in a room or other location, the app also offers historical data. Temperature information is highlighted on three charts: last 24 hours, last 30 days, and last 12 months.

Another nice tool: ThemoPeanut can alert you whenever the temperature in a room exceeds your preferred high or low.

The bottom line

Two weeks into my ThermoPeanut experience, I’m hooked. The cute, little sensor is worth the price and the SensePeanut app just works, as it should. I’ll be buying more TheremoPeanut units in the coming weeks.

You can order a TheremoPeanut from the Sen.se website. They are available in four colors, blue, orange, red, and green.
