Bring You Home Is An Early Game Of The Year Candidate For 2018

February 7, 2018

If your pet was kidnapped, what would you do? If you’re Polo in the new game Bring You Home, the answer is to go to ends of the Earth and beyond to get it back. This game isn’t restricted to the normal confines of a single planet, and instead has portals that let you travel to different dimensions with each one introducing a new challenge for Polo. Each dimension has its own style that ranges from familiar medieval times to outlandish geometric shapes with a nice similarity to the wacky dimensions of Rick & Morty. Bring You Home comes from the makers of Love You To Bits, and has a similar endearing quality as well as charming art style and level design.

Bring You Home separates itself from Love You To Bits, as well as the rest of the App Store field with a subtly new logic puzzle style. The game is reminiscent of Splitter Critters, but gives you pre made sections to interact with, so it’s more like Framed and Gorogoa. Either way, Bring You Home creates its own niche as you swipe vertically across panels to introduce new elements that work towards a solution. In each level, you need to figure out the right combination of panels for Polo to traverse the danger filled level. As you progress, there will be more combinations to explore, and you will also need to swap the positions of the panels to nicely build upon the complexity of the game. The game could use some more levels, but that’s only because you’re left wanting more after the touching conclusion.

The makers of Love You To Bits have a new puzzle adventure for you.

What really makes Bring You Home stand out is that each level begins with a cut scene that shows Polo failing with the combination at the start. Part of the enjoyment of the game is watching your various fails unfold as you try wrong combinations on your way to the solution. The developers put in so much TLC into the subtle details of each animated incorrect sequence that you can’t help, but try to see what happens with each combination. It’s a great feeling to figure out the solution, and watch Polo make it past all of the obstacles that have caused you multiple problems, but that’s only because of all of the fails. It’s rare to have a game that puts a smile on your face when you make a mistake, but that’s exactly what Bring You Home does. There are outstanding logic puzzles to solve, and each mistake along the way only builds up the enjoyment, rather than detracts.

Bring You Home is an absolutely phenomenal experience that you can’t help but fall in love with like a family pet.
