The Canary Home Security System Just Got Better With New Features
The popular Canary Home Security System just got better. The latest Canary app update adds two new features and significantly improves a user favorite for the popular accessory.
With two-way audio, you can now communicate through the Canary app with those in your home. Canary Talk is available for Canary All-in-One users with Membership beginning today, Aug. 14. It arrives for Canar Flex users with Membership in September.
Membership users also now have the ability to view video feeds via the web. Located at my.canary.is, the new feature allows you to stream live video and view recorded events from a desktop or mobile browser. Previously, you could only do so via iOS or Android mobile apps.
Finally, Canary has reduced latency when watching live video. Prior to the app update, there was a delay of about five seconds between what you saw in the Canary app and the activity that was happening.
In a blog post announcing the update, Canary explains:
To achieve this, we completely redesigned the backend of Watch Live to prioritize real-time video delivery. By implementing a dedicated video pipeline, and adding adaptive video quality to the Watch Live experience, we were able to make Watch Live truly live.
As a long-time Canary user, I’m glad to see these improvements go online. Two-way talking, in particular, was one of my must-have features. Still, I’m somewhat annoyed that Canary Talk and web viewing is only available through a Canary Membership, which starts at $99 per year.
At least in some capacity, these features should have been made available for free, no?
All-In-One Canary
You can buy the All-in-One indoor Canary for $169 and the indoor/outdoor Canary Flex for $199. Multipacks are also available starting at $349.
