ESPN MultiCast on Apple TV Will Change How You Watch Sports
ESPN MultiCast provides Apple TV users with the ability to view up to four simultaneous live streams at once. The feature arrives today, Aug. 16, through an app update, according to Variety.
The new ESPN MultiCast feature is a first for the leading sports provider in the United States. With it, Apple TV users can change the primary screen, flip audio, expand to full screen, and choose how many live streams appear on the screen and in what configuration.
In a future update, ESPN MultiCast will also allow users to add content aside from video, including playing in-game highlights, fantasy sports updates, alerts, scoreboards, and social-media posts.
ESPN expects to add the feature to other platforms at some point. For now, it will remain exclusive to Apple TV because it “has capabilities to do this that other platforms don’t have,” according to Ryan Spoon, ESPN’s senior VP of digital product, design and audience development.
The ESPN app for iOS and Android are also getting an update. Version 5.0 includes a new “Watch” tab that lets users access live-streaming events and shows based on their favorite teams. The update also provides access to ESPN3 replays.
ESPN MultiCast sounds like a great idea, especially with college football season just days away. Would you agree?
