If You Don't Like Your Intellect Challenged, Not Not Is Not For You
There are plenty of puzzle games available for your iPhone and iPad. Not many of them actively try to trick you into making a wrong move, though. In Not Not, the game begins deceptively easy and quickly transitions to downright deceptive. This is a title that will stretch your dexterity and your intellect at the same time.
Fresh on the App Store by indie game studio Alt Shift, this is what seems like a mind-numbingly simple game. All you have to do is follow the written instructions to swipe your character in the right direction.
If that sounds easy, it might be ... at first. However, Not Not is full of trick questions and directions engineered to deceive you. A directive like "not left" might sound simple enough, but what about "Up and not green" when the top exit is green?
In the game's Classic Mode, each level will introduce you to a new brain-teasing concept. Each level presents different types of challenges, and you can predict what's coming next. The clock is ticking, so you'll need to act quickly.
It's up to you to figure out the puzzle and direct your character in the right direction. The further you progress in the game, the more difficult it will become.
The brain teaser that's made up of tricky directions
Where the fun really picks up, though, is in Challenge Mode. Your goal here is to see how far you can get before you execute a direction wrong. All of the puzzle types get mixed together, so there's not as much predictability in Challenge Mode.
The further you go in Not Not, the more complex and varied the instructions become. You'll need to use both logic and dexterity to succeed.
Not Not is a unique game that challenges both your fine motor skills and your intellect. While the gameplay might be simple, most of the puzzles you'll need to solve are not.
After you complete a game, if you're proud of your results, you can share a screenshot with Facebook, Twitter, email, or Messages. Then again, if the game totally stumps you early on, you just might want to keep quiet about that.
Not Not is a real challenge, both physically and mentally. You have to be quick to think of the answer and execute it, because the clock is ticking.
