Here Are 5 iOS 11 Beta 4 Features Worth Knowing About
On Monday, Apple introduced the latest iOS 11 beta to developers. Here’s a brief look at five of the new iOS 11 beta 4 features.
1. Refreshed Icons
Apple typically uses iOS betas to introduce new app icons. In iOS 11 beta 4, it changed the look of three native apps, Contacts, Reminders, and Notes.
As you can see, Contacts now includes a sketch of a male and female. Previously, the icon only included a male. The other two icons offer minor tweaks.
2. Notification Tweaks
On the Notification Center (when locked), you can now swipe left on a Notification to bring up options to clear it or view it. When you click on a Notification, a new screen will ask you to log into your phone via Touch ID.
3. App Updates
Really waiting for an app update? You can now refresh the App Store update tab by pulling down on the screen.
4. AirDrop
In iOS 10, the only way to view AirDrop settings is through the Control Panel. In iOS 11 beta 4, Apple has added these settings to a dedicated section of the Settings app. It’s located under General > AirDrop.
From there, you can decide whether to share files with Contacts Only, Everyone, or turn the feature off.
5. Storage
In iOS 11 beta 4, Apple has tweaked how it lists device storage.
On the Settings app, under General > About you’ll now see the total amount of storage a device has rather than the amount of storage available minus the size of iOS.
In 2016, Apple released eight iOS 10 developer betas before offering the GM (or gold master) version. The same schedule could occur this year, which means we might not see the first public version of iOS 11 arrive until September.
