The Bluetooth Keyboard offered by Inateck is not a straight-up knock-off of Apple’s, but it is an intended alternative. Since it’s also compatible with Windows and Android, the keys are slightly different from Apple’s keyboard. Still, Inateck’s keyboard works beautifully with my iPad and costs 75 percent less than Apple’s Magic Keyboard.

Inateck’s Bluetooth Keyboard does exactly what I expected it to do. It connected to my iPad easily and allowed me to touch type faster than I can with the on-screen keyboard. It includes keyboard shortcuts, so I have to take my hands off the keyboard less frequently.

To test this keyboard, I worked for four days exclusively on my iPad, and during that time I wrote several articles. It was slower going, but that’s due to using a different operating system from what I’m used to for creation.

The keys are pleasant to touch with the right amount of give. The touch-typing experience feels very natural. I only tested it for a week, so it’s hard to assess longevity, but it feels like a good quality piece of equipment. The keyboard is lightweight and the stainless steel backside keeps it from looking or feeling cheap.

What I didn't like

What I didn't like

What I didn't like

Because this keyboard is not designed exclusively for Apple, it is not set up the same way as an Apple keyboard. So, you don’t quite get the smooth flowing Apple experience. For example, there is no Command key. I figured out that I can use the Win key instead for virtually the same purpose. The keyboard’s manual doesn’t include instructions on keyboard shortcuts, so it was up to me to figure out what to do where it varied from an Apple keyboard. I’m still not sure I’ve got it all figured out, but I’ve got the basics down.

It isn’t entirely fair to knock this keyboard for its flexibility, but if you are in the market for an Apple keyboard proxy, it’s something to consider.

Bottom line

If you don’t need the exclusive Apple experience and are willing to learn some new keyboard shortcuts, Inateck’s Bluetooth Keyboard is a great bargain alternative. You can use it with both Apple and non-Apple devices. This keyboard is attractive, functional, flexible, and lightweight. It’s available on Amazon in black for $26.99 or white for $23.99.
