It Sounds Like the 'iPhone 7' Is Going to Be a Great Upgrade

KGI's reports the latest
September 3, 2016

9to5Mac has obtained a weekend note from KGI which claims to highlight some of the major features for the upcoming “iPhone 7.”

KGI claims that the “iPhone 7” will now come in two new colors, a “dark black” to replace the space gray as well as a glossy “piano black” color. We’ve seen leaked images of the SIM card tray, so this is something I find very believable. KGI says that the “piano black” color may be limited at the start, so if you plan on grabbing one, you better have some trigger fingers on order day.

Next, KGI claims that the “iPhone 7” will see a substantial performance boost due to a new ‘InFO’ process on Apple’s upcoming A10 chip. According to the report, we could see clock speeds as high as 2.4GHz.

While both cameras will get an upgrade, the report focuses mostly on the dual-camera system that will be implemented on the “iPhone 7 Plus.” According to the report, the dual-camera will feature both a wide-angle and a telephoto lens that are each 12 megapixels. The flash will also go from two LED’s to four LED’s to help create a more effective flash in low-light scenarios.

In terms of storage, there’s some great news. Apple will start with 32GB as the base model and will offer both 128GB and 256GB as upgrades. When it comes to RAM, KGI reports that the smaller, 4.7-inch model will stay at 2GB, but the Plus model will get 3GB, perhaps to help with photo processing.

The iPhone is also set to get an IPX7 waterproof rating, which will technically allow the phone to be submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Sweet.

There’s some bad news for those hoping for bundled wireless earbuds. According to KGI, Apple will include a set of Lightning earbuds along with a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, something that’s been rumored for a few days now. Also, the second grill, which will appear to look like a second speaker, will not actually be a second speaker, but instead will house a new sensor to improve the “Force Touch user experience”, perhaps for the Home button.

All-in-all, the “iPhone 7” actually looks like a pretty substantial upgrade. Waterproofing is huge in my opinion and the new dual-camera system I’ve heard is amazing. The new colors will be beautiful, and things like speed are always welcomed.

We’re just a few days away from finding out of all of this is true. Who’s excited?
