SirusXM Buys Car Accessory Maker Automatic for $100 Million

Satellite radio giant SiriusXM is the new owner of Automatic, the connected car accessory maker. The $100 million purchase was first announced on Automatic’s blog.

Automatic says that it had turned down previous acquisition offers “because we didn’t think those companies would give us the creative freedom we needed.” With Sirius XM, things are different.

They note:

Unlike other companies, the folks at SiriusXM truly share our vision and they value what we’ve built. What’s more, we’ll be able to make progress faster together because of their strong relationships with automakers, significant existing connected vehicle business, and financial resources.

For now, there are no plans to change the Automatic brand, products, or team.

Automatic currently offers two products, the Automatic Lite ($79.95) and Automatic Pro ($129.95). Both work with the Automatic app for iOS and Android to provide trip logging, business tagging, engine light diagnostics, and more.

SiriusXM offers satellite radio offers commercial-free content in automobiles, standalone devices, and the web. There’s also a SiriusXM app. Packages begin at $10.99 per month.
