Starbucks Voice Ordering to Launch With New Barista Digital Assistant
Starbucks voice ordering is set to launch later this year via iPhone. The new feature, which is already available for select customers, further extends “the barista and customer interaction within the company’s digital ecosystem,” according to the coffee giant.
"Give me my caffeine"
With the new feature, customers are able to request drinks by voice using the iOS app. Thereafter, the My Starbucks Barista digital assistant can accept the order and confirm payment.
The new experience serves as an extension of Starbucks’ Mobile Order & Pay feature, which allows customers to order and pay for items before arriving at the store.
According to Gerri Martin-Flickinger, chief technology officer for Starbucks:
Our team is focused on making sure that Starbucks voice ordering within our app is truly personal and equally important was finding the right partner in Amazon to test and learn from this new capability. These initial releases are easy to use providing a direct benefit to customers within their daily routine and we are confident that this is the right next step in creating convenient moments to complement our more immersive formats. We expect to learn a lot from these experiences and to evolve them over time.
Starbucks voice ordering is likely to launch for iOS this summer. It’s also launching on Amazon Alexa around the same time.
