Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Won't Be Buying an iPhone X

October 24, 2017

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has always purchased a new iPhone when it launches. He tells CNBC, however, he won’t be buying an iPhone X, at least for now.

In a new interview, Wozniak explains he already bought an iPhone 8 during this cycle, noting:

I’m happy with my iPhone 8 — which is the same as the iPhone 7, which is the same as the iPhone 6, to me.

This doesn’t mean he won’t have access to an iPhone X when it launches on Friday, Nov. 3.

I’d rather wait and watch that one […] For some reason, the iPhone X is going to be the first iPhone I didn’t — on day one — upgrade to. But my wife will, so I’ll be close enough to see it.

Wozniak expressed skepticism about Face ID, the new authentication tool on the iPhone X that replaces Touch ID. However, he doesn’t explain why.

Long a fixture at iPhone launches, Wozniak helped start Apple in 1976 alongside the late Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne. He left the company in 1985.

Pre-orders for the iPhone X begin at 12:01 a.m. PDT this Friday, Oct. 27. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are available now in stores.
